Mcafee finally released Patch 4 from VSE 8.8 which should solve the Installation with same Patch on Windows XP, W7, W8, W8.1 and full Server range from 2003-2012R2 in one package.
Mcafee has drilled down some Options or sensitivity: Cookies Scan default removed, Buffer overflow protection removed, Artemis (GTO) scoped down to lower level on Windows 8 and Server 2012R2. Reason for this is not mentioned but maybe too much problem or to slow?
Well finally we have one package for MOST of the target OS like Windows XP and W7/W8. Finally a few months before the Windows XP END Date in April 2014.
The merge from mcafee > Intel maybe just made too much trouble and people leaving or changing around…
Patch version
Patch 4 package — Updates VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0 clients, with Patch 1 (32-bit) or Patch 2 (64-bit) only.
Important
This package does not upgrade VirusScan Enterprise version 8.8.0.777 (RTW).
To update with the Patch 4 package:
◦ On 64-bit systems, first install Patch 2, then Patch 4.
◦ On 32-bit systems, first install Patch 1, then Patch 4.
Alternatively, uninstall VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0 and reinstall with the Repost
Warning:
We have problem with VSE 8.8 P4 on Windows XP with Office 2002 (Office XP). The Buffer Over Flow Protection does a FALSE/POSITVE Alert on teh EXE Files of Office 2002.
You may have to exclude the Office 2002 EXE Files.
